University of Iowa Health Care is committed to a culture of ethics, integrity and compliance. The Joint office for Compliance assists and advices all faculty and staff on how to prevent, detect, and correct employee violations of the Federal, State, or local laws, or institution policy and procedure violations.

The Compliance Helpline is available to you when you have a question or concern and don’t feel comfortable discussing the matter with your supervisor or a UI Health Care Human Resources representative. Trained staff members answer calls to the Compliance Helpline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Calls are not traced or recorded.

You may call the Compliance Helpline to report any concerns or if you suspect any violation with federal or state laws, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Billing and Coding
  • Patient Care
  • Laws and Regulations
  • Conflicts of Interest
  • Health and Safety
  • Human Resources
  • Property, Equipment, and Other Assets
  • Communication
  • HIPAA Privacy

Information from your call will be communicated to the Joint Office for Compliance for follow-up and response. Your request for information or action will be handled promptly and professionally. All reports of improper conduct will be investigated. 

All calls are kept confidential to the extent permitted by law. Although you are encouraged to identify yourself, you may make an anonymous report.

We will not take any disciplinary action, or other type of retaliation or reprisal, against any faculty or staff member for reporting, in good faith, a concern, issue, problem, violation of law/regulation. Those who submit good faith reports or inquiries are entitled to be treated in accordance with whistleblower protection laws. Any faculty or staff member who believes that he or she has been retaliated against for making a report should contact the Joint Office for Compliance Office or call the Compliance Helpline.
