UI Health Care will begin a national search for a new role of chief physician executive.

As UI Health Care continues to expand access to meet the needs of more patients and communities across Iowa, UI Health Care leaders have identified a need for a physician to provide leadership to integrate clinical care across the entire health system, including hospitals, physician groups, and current and future sites of care. This new role will create system-wide clinical standards that support a culture focused on compassion, respect, excellence, safety, and teamwork.   

“We’re looking for a physician leader committed to superior patient outcomes who will build trust and cultivate strong relationships with clinicians and leaders across the organization,” says Denise Jamieson, MD, MPH, UI vice president for medical affairs and the Tyrone D. Artz Dean of the Carver College of Medicine. “I believe we are well-positioned to attract strong candidates who can continue to build on our system’s strengths and attain new levels of excellence in support of our tripartite mission.” 

Gerry Clancy, MD, senior associate dean for external affairs in the Carver College of Medicine, and Marlan Hansen, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology, have agreed to serve as co-chairs of the search committee. 

Joining Clancy and Hansen on the committee will be:

  • David Asprey, PhD, PA-C–professor and chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and Services
  • Javier Campos, MD–executive director of perioperative services 
  • Jason Haddy, MBA–assistant vice president for finance in the Carver College of Medicine 
  • Katie Imborek, MD–vice chair for clinical operations and director of the Office of Health Parity 
  • Rachel Maassen, MD–professor and interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology   
  • Brad Manning, MD–director of the Adult Hospitalist Program 
  • Patrick McNamara, MB, BCH, BAO, DCH, MSc, MRCP, MRCPCH–professor and director of neonatology division in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics 
  • Amy O’Deen, BSN, MHA–senior associate director of the clinical enterprise of UI Health Care 
  • Jeffrey Quinlan, MD—professor and chair of the Department of Family Medicine 
  • Kim Staffey, MD–clinical associate professor and vice chair for clinical programs in the Department of Internal Medicine 
  • Dionne Skeete, MD–clinical professor and director of the Acute Care Surgery Division in the Department of Surgery 
  • John Stark, MBA, MS–Interventional Services Associate Director 
  • Derek Zhorne, MD–associate chief medical officer of UI Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital
