As a sign of its enhanced ability to serve patients in the Quad Cities, AirCare recently unveiled a permanent helipad along Dexter Court in Davenport.
AirCare, a partnership between University of Iowa Health Care and Air Methods, joined with community, state leaders, and health care leaders to celebrate the next step. Since 1979, AirCare has transported more than 40,000 patients and flown more than 4.6 million miles in their mission to serve patients in critical need.
“Our goal is to keep care local and to help support communities and help support other health systems and other hospitals and ensuring that all Iowans have access to high quality health care, including emergency care,” says Denise Jamieson, MD, MPH, UI vice president for medical affairs and the Tyrone D. Artz Dean of the Carver College of Medicine.
AirCare transports critically-ill and severely-injured patients, using state-of-the-art medical equipment to deliver care en route with an emphasis on supporting high-risk patient populations, including multi-system trauma victims, neonates, pediatric patients, and patients with time-sensitive or complex medical conditions.
The emergency service began serving patients in the Quad Cities region in fall 2024.
“It's been a long time coming and I know that we're very excited to support the Quad Cities community, combining the excellent service from a clinical perspective that the University of Iowa Health Care brings with our premier aviation and maintenance services,” says Brian Leonard, MDA, FACHE, vice president for field operations for Air Methods.
The Quad Cities helicopter base is AirCare’s fourth base serving eastern Iowa. Other AirCare helicopter bases are located in Iowa City, Waterloo, and Dubuque.
All flights are operated by Air Methods.
