A claim brought by University of Iowa against several contractors over a faulty window system at University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital has concluded with an arbitration panel awarding the university $49.4 million in damages.
“We are pleased with the arbitration panel’s decision and thankful this case has been resolved,” says Denise Jamieson, MD, MPH, UI vice president for medical affairs and the Tyrone D. Artz Dean of the Carver College of Medicine. “We remain committed to providing patients and their loved ones with a safe place to receive outstanding care.”
UI Health Care has taken a phased approach to replacing the windows to avoid disruptions to care while protecting the safety of patients, visitors, and employees. The team continues to monitor windows that have not yet been replaced and expects to have all defective windows replaced by end of 2026.
