Program Retention and Remediation Procedures

If upon review of the above criteria, it is determined that a student is failing to meet performance criteria, the program director confers with the student regarding performance and/or conduct and implements a plan for improvement that includes:

  • Written guidelines for improved performance within designated time frames (no longer than 150 percent or 30 weeks from start of program)
  • Copies of the guidelines are given to the student, preceptor to whom the student is assigned, selected associate directors, and the department director
  • The student’s performance is evaluated by the program director in consultation with the preceptors, selected associate directors, and department director. The program director makes the final decision on the disposition of the student regarding successful completion of program requirements or termination from the program.

Graduate Degree and Verification Statement Procedures

After the program director verifies that each student has completed all requirements for program completion, the Master of Clinical Nutrition degree is awarded through the UI College of Medicine and verification statements* are awarded through University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. The program director follows the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Registration Eligibility Processing System and submits completed data to CDR on the program completion date.

Termination

The student is asked to leave the program because it is determined that competencies are not reached within designated time frames. The student is counseled on support services available on campus.
